Victory Day — on the battlefield of Orsha

Members of the organizing committee for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the historic Battle of Orsha visited Krapivenskaye field where 8 September 1514 Grand Duchy of Lithuania troops defeated three times as many troops of the Moscow principality.

Orsha on the field of victory came and local activists, as well as a famous singer Andrey Melnikov, the author of the song "U nyadzelku paranenku" dedicated to the famous historical event, and historian Yuri Koptik, one of the founders of the bard festival "Battle of Orsha" conduct which disrupts in recent years the local police.

Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Orsha born artist Mikola Kupava believes that this trip - not only a tribute to fallen soldiers:

"We looked at how this place can be prepared to present the 500th anniversary of the victorious battle. Of course, in the future there should be a monument Ostrozky commander who led troops Grand Duchy of Lithuania during the Battle of Orsha. Too bad that in recent years the authorities seek to thwart such an interesting event, as the bard festival, initiated by Andrei Melnikov Yuri Koptikom. We will try this year to make certain steps - in particular, to write several letters to such unpleasant incidents as dispersal of participants in the anniversary year has not happened."

The participants lit candles in front of the memorial stone in honor of the battle on the banks of the river and at the foot Krapivny Cross of memory installed as a reminder of those who died.

And then there was a meeting in Orsha Mikola Kupava and Alexander Zhuchkov - Minsk members of the organizing committee for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the victory of Orsha - with community activists. According to Alexander Zhuchkov celebrating this anniversary should pass across Belarus. For example, in different cities are invited to create a travel group travel and conduct associated with this event, hold music and literary festivals featuring knightly reenactment clubs and communities in Minsk, Orsha and Borisov, to organize a series of art exhibitions and concerts - not only in Belarus, but also in Vilnius and Bialystok and Warsaw.

Present at the meeting expressed serious doubts that the celebration in Belarus will be possible to without any problems. At least until the Belarusian authorities are not very willing to support the initiative of the organizing committee. So, to the Executive Committee and Board of Orsha deputies have already sent a letter with a number of suggestions from members of the National Committee for the celebration of the anniversary of the Battle of Orsha: rename the street Lenin to Avenue Ostrozky; square, on which stands a statue of Lenin to square called Victory and Orsha on this square to erect a monument Ostrozky; Karl Marx Street to name Yuri Radziwill, Sovetskaya Street to name Ivan Sapieha - the heroes of the Battle of Orsha. But the answer to this letter has not yet been received.

September 8, 2014 marks the 500th anniversary of Belarusian Victory over Moscow troops near Orsha.
