In local elections, the number of mandates will decrease

According to the press service of the President of the Republic of Belarus, according to the results of the meeting with the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Lydia Yermoshina , which took place on December 2 , Alexander Lukashenko has approved a proposal to hold local elections on 23 March next year. This resulted in the administrative-territorial structure in the Vitebsk region number " deputies " in the representative bodies of the 26th convocation significantly reduced.

According to the management of organizational and personnel work Vitebsk regional executive committee in future campaigns in the Vitebsk region to elect deputies 3218 , 2329 of them - in the village councils . The total number of seats will be reduced by approximately 8.8% compared with the local elections in 2010 , the same will be only their number in the Regional Council (60). In rural and village councils will be less than 233 seats ( or 9% ) , in the city councils - 62 ( almost 32 %).

Reduction of mandates associated with the union representative bodies of Polotsk , Orsha with relevant district councils , as well as the elimination of several village councils , caused by the necessity of consolidation of administrative units and bringing them in line with the structure of the legislation. Thus , the total number of local councils has decreased by 6.7% to 224. Will form a regional , 21 district , 5 city councils in the cities of regional and regional subordination, 197 village councils .

The upcoming election campaign will have a number of features compared with the previous. According to the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Some Laws of the Republic of Belarus on elections and referendums", which will come into force in December 2013 , candidates were granted the right to form their electoral funds. An applicant for a deputy mandate will run only one district. Candidates will be required to include all criminal convictions that occurred in their lives , even if they were paid or withdrawn . In addition, those who do not have official sources of income must be specified in the declaration of income and property source , through which they exist. Also during the campaign will be operational rule which prohibits campaigning for a boycott of the elections.
